Events 2009-2010

The LES Music School holds an exciting and varied programme of events each term. In addition to our large-scale performances at various venues across the campus and externally, we hold a regular lunchtime recital in our purpose built recital hall. This is to encourage our pupils to gain experience by performing to a smaller audience than would be anticipated in our larger concerts. These are held on every Friday at 1.45pm for senior pupils and 12.45pm on the first Friday of every month for Fairfield pupils. All are welcome to attend, admission is free.

At the end of every term, the Music School holds a large-scale concert offering an opportunity for many of our ensembles to perform to an audience of parents, staff, special guests and the general public. In the Autumn term, this is the 'St Cecilia' concert which is our own homage to the patron saint of musicians and church music. This year saw us perform at the Albert Hall in Nottingham to a sold-out audience and included the LES Senior Orchestra, Fairfield Orchestra, Senior Choir, Chamber Choir, Big Band and the Year 7 cohort from both the Grammar and High School. Pieces included 'The Great Escape March', 'I'm a Believer', 'English Folk Song Suite' and Choral Selections from Les Misérables. A truly fantastic evening with outstanding performances from all pupils involved.

The spring term saw our Choral & Orchestral concert held on campus in the Hodson Hall. Featuring performances by the LES Choral Society, LES Senior Orchestra, Senior and Intermediate Choirs performing a challenging repertoire including Mozart, Mendelssohn and Ralph Vaughan Williams.

The summer term brought round the Al Fresco concert which was a wonderful day for both our performers and the audience. The weather was sunny (albeit a litte windy at times!) and was a fitting way to end the school year.
