Singers & Choirs Concert

On Monday 20 March, a large audience saw 250 singers aged from 7 to 70, from across the Foundation gather in the Hodson Hall for LES presents: Singers and Choirs.  The audience was treated to an exquisite and eclectic evening with pieces ranging from the Renaissance era all the way to Justin Bieber!  Despite the large numbers of singers we managed to move seamlessly from one choir to the next, and the evening was a huge success.

The evening began with Cantamus Apprentices and Chorister Apprentices impressing with their clear diction, followed by  Cantamus who navigated effortlessly through the complexities of Chilcott.  Next came LHS Chorale who, though small in number, brought a touch of class to a modern classic, then Burton Choristers and Burton Consort joined forces to show a real depth of tone and colour in a piece of Tallis.  The OLCS Senior Choir had the audience completely on their side with a rousing rendition of Queen, and Cantilena showed their usual poise and elegance with Schubert and Victoria. Mr West was inspired by his own wedding music for one of Chamber Choir’s songs, which they delivered with beautiful precision. After the liturgical choirs gathered for an immensely energetic massed version of Pitoni’s Cantate Domino it was left to LES Chorus and Loughborough Singers to close the concert with a magnificent rendition of Handel’s Zadok the Priest, accompanied by Mr Thompson on the organ.
