Strings & Orchestras Concert

The Hodson Hall was full to capacity on Wednesday 15 March for this year’s LES Presents: Strings and Orchestras. This concert seems to grow larger every year, and this one hit the ground running with confident performances of Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnol and Aboriginal Rituals by the fifty-strong Concert Orchestra. The three Parents’ Classes combined to perform the theme from Dvorak’s New World Symphony and at the other end of the age spectrum the Year 2s as usual stole the show with their performances. The schools’ most advanced students accompanied the Year 2s and later went on to give a sensitive performance of Grieg’s Two Elegiac Melodies. In between there were performances by the Lower String Ensemble, Young Strings and Junior Orchestra who provided an upbeat Toreador’s March. The small but impressive Y3 Lower String group gave us a rendition of a German melody. Year 3 Violins were on good form with their two part offering of Spy Movie.

Thank you to Tim Toft Violins who were with us and who entertained  the students with a “guess the number of pieces of wood in a violin” competition. The lovely marquetry violin was made up of 730 pieces of wood and the competition was won by Natasha in Y2.
