How to Apply for Lunchtime Concerts
For all lunchtime concerts there is a folder kept by Mrs Cooper in the Music School office; Mrs Cooper can offer support and guidance if you are not sure where to put your entry.
The organisation of Fairfield concerts is unaltered; either the pupil’s teacher or (usually in the case of pupils who have lessons outside the LES Music School) a parent fills in the details of what the pupil is playing, and unless we contact to say otherwise the pupil will perform at the next recital, which happens once a month.
For senior concerts, there are now four categories of recitals: Open, LGS, LHS and Pianists’. For all recitals details must be written (with no omissions) on the relevant booking page. You will know at the time of booking which date the pupil will be playing on.
The Open recital is open to anyone who wishes to play a short (under 4 minutes) piece, and pupils of all levels of playing (and confidence) are encouraged to perform. If the Open recital is full at the time of trying to book, please consider playing in an evening Open Concert instead.
The LGS and LHS recitals take place in the Hodson and LHS School Halls respectively; pupils may play one piece (which may have more than one movement) lasting up to 7 minutes. The intention is that these recitals are for polished, confident performances but it is not just for older or higher grade pupils. Please note that especially for the LHS recital, the instrument in the hall is not suitable for advanced pianists (see below).
The Pianists’ recitals are for advanced piano students to perform on the Recital Hall’s Steinway. Pupils may submit one or two pieces up to a total of 8 minutes in length. Again a high level of polish and confidence is expected.
