Extra Curricular Information
Joining an ensemble will help you to become a better musician and develop an important social skill. You should regard membership of a group as a fundamental part of your music education rather than as an optional extra; you will improve your sight reading, your aural skills as well as experience a greater range of repertoire than you would just in your individual lesson. The ensembles at the LES Music School are offered free of charge and we strongly encourage all pupils to take part.
An ensemble is also a commitment. All pupils who join ensembles are expected to attend all rehearsals and performances for which that ensemble is involved with. Just as with a team sport, if you don’t turn up you will be letting others down as well as inhibiting your own progress.
Absences must only be for good reason and should be fully explained to the ensemble leader, in advance of the rehearsal if the absence is planned (as opposed to illness). If the ensemble leader is not in school you must see the Music Manager.
All pupils of the Loughborough Endowed Schools are welcome to join ensembles whether or not they have individual tuition at the LES Music School. Priority is not given to those who do. The majority of our ensembles are non-auditioned and open to all; a few are by audition or invitation only. Of these some have simply a minimum standard, but in some cases entry is competitive and places are limited.
