Music Scholarships

Music Scholarships are awarded to strong candidates offering two instruments (usually plus a willingness to contribute to choral activity if voice is not one of their ‘instruments’); awards equivalent to the value of tuition fees in two or three instruments are usually offered. Auditions are held in January immediately preceding the week of the entrance exams to LGS and LHS.

The standard of applicants is generally around a distinction at grade 4 (for a principal instrument or an exhibition) when applying for Year 7 entry, grade 6 at Year 9 and grade 7/8 at Year 12; at all levels we are looking at musicality and potential as much as technical prowess. However those playing minority orchestral instruments (whether as principal or second study) may be given a little latitude, whereas the standard of pianists who apply is generally around one grade higher.

Parents who are unsure as to whether their child would be in contention for a music award are encouraged to make contact with the Director of Music and arrange an informal pre-audition. Please see our guide for more information or apply here.

Music Exhibitions are available to existing pupils of LES and are awarded on an annual basis. For more information about Exhibitions, please click here.
