Terms and Conditions

Individual Music Tuition is offered on the following terms and conditions:

Time & Place of Lessons

All lessons will take place at the Loughborough Endowed Schools and will be at a time agreed with the teacher and school; this may vary from week to week according to the rota system.

Fees & Charges

Fees will be charged at the current rate for 10 lessons in the autumn and spring terms, and are to be paid in arrears and will appear as part of the school fees bill. Fees for the summer term will be adjusted according to the number of lessons actually scheduled as there will be between 30 and 34 lessons delivered during the course of the year depending on how the teacher’s timetable has fitted into the schools’ schedules.  Additional costs (e.g. sheet music ordered on behalf of your son/daughter, accompanist’s charges, etc) will also be added to your school fees bill.  The schools reserve the right to suspend lessons in the event of non-payment by the due date.

Lessons Missed

Lessons missed through a pupil's non-attendance will be charged.  Should a lesson have to be cancelled by the teacher, the school will arrange to carry that lesson forward to a later date or to credit the appropriate fee.

Notice to Discontinue

Lessons may only be stopped at the end of a term. Notice to discontinue lessons must be given in writing (which includes e-mail) to the Music School office by the beginning of the half-term holiday of the term at the end of which you wish the lessons to cease. Notice given any later than this will be deemed to apply to the following term.
If your son/daughter is in Years 11, 12 & 13 you may apply to only have five lessons in the summer term; please inform us again in writing by the beginning of the February half-term holiday.

Notice to Increase Fees

The fees will be reviewed from time to time and may be increased by such amount as the governors consider necessary and reasonable.  We shall endeavour to give at least a term’s notice of any increases in the fees due for a particular term and in any event shall give you notice of any such increases not later than the final day of the preceding term.

Practice between lessons

Whilst the teacher will make every reasonable effort to improve the knowledge and ability of the pupil, pupils are expected to cooperate with the teacher and to adhere to the sessions of practice advised by the teacher. Parents/Guardians are asked to assist in this by signing the Practice Book (where appropriate), and to take on a supportive, encouraging role in the long process of learning to play a musical instrument.

Examinations

The pupil will be entered for public music examinations only with the consent of the teacher and parent/guardian.  Pupils are strongly recommended to attend aural lessons during the two terms prior to an examination.  These are currently available in the Music School.

For Instrument Hire, the conditions are as follows:

  • The charge for the hire of each instrument is £35 per term or part of a term.  This charge will be added to your school fees bill. If the instrument is an ‘endangered species’ and its primary use is to support an ensemble, the fee may be waived.
  • The hire period is for a maximum of 3 terms.  There is always a demand for instruments to hire but in certain circumstances it may be possible to extend this period.
  • Parents are liable for any loss or damage sustained while the instrument is on hire to you.  Please ensure your home or personal insurance gives you adequate cover for the replacement of an instrument should loss or damage occur.
  • When the instrument is brought into the Music School it should be kept in the special storage cupboards within the building.  It should be clearly labelled with both the school’s name and address and the pupil’s name and form.
  • At the end of the hire period your son/daughter’s instrumental teacher will be happy to advise on the purchase of a suitable instrument.
  • If the instrument is not being made full use of, the Music School reserves the right to recall the instrument for someone else’s use.
  • Pupils hiring school instruments are expected to play in at least one Music School ensemble.
  • Any repairs must be carried out by an approved repairer.  The Head of Wind and Brass should be contacted before any work is undertaken.
  • Please inform the Music School in writing as soon as the instrument is returned so that accurate accounts can be kept.
